About Me

I work for the AHF Healthcare Center - Fort Lauderdale Downtown. After working for many years in a private group practice, I wanted to return to the healthcare setting and focus I started my medical career, a non-profit center for the treatment of HIV-AIDS. And what better place than AHF, taking care of patients, where I feel I am most needed.

In 1986 I lived in Zambia and saw my first HIV patient. She was a young woman dying of AIDS. I had been interested in pursuing Ob/Gyn until then, but this case impacted me so much that when I came to the USA, I changed my specialty and decided to pursue a career in Infectious Disease. I have never regretted that decision.

When I finished my ID Fellowship, I first worked in the Bronx, NY, and at the HIV Comprehensive Center at St Luke's /Roosevelt Hospital. Then, after moving to Florida, for many years I practiced both as an Internist and an ID physician for our patients in the group and in the Hospital. It gives me great satisfaction to know I am where I am needed.

Fun Fact: I like to travel, whenever possible. I am bilingual in English and Spanish. One day I would like to (re)learn French, as I have forgotten what I learned while at University. I especially love Peruvian cuisine. I am an advocate for people with disabilities and want to contribute to a community that is just and equitable for all of us.
