About Me
I am the provider of the AHF Healthcare Centers: Baltimore and Temple Hills. My awakening into the wonder of serving the marginalized population affected by HIV and AIDS started more than 18 years ago. I worked with the Kenya Network of Women with Aids (KENWA), a nonprofit organization that served mostly women and children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. My role as a clinical officer was to serve people living with HIV and initiate them on ART. Watching helpless, emaciated, and bedridden women—with CD4 counts of less than ten—slowly regain their health and resume their responsibilities of providing for their families was incredibly rewarding. My passion for working with the HIV population was born. And I have never looked back.
I have worked in different capacities as a provider (in Kenya) and a Nurse (in the USA). My most recent employment was with Johns Hopkins University at the Health Department where I worked as an HIV Case Manager for close to 4 years. That role further enlightened me on the existing issues that drive the HIV pandemic in Baltimore including poverty, race, stigma, homophobia, systemic racism, and lack of access to quality healthcare. After attaining my DNP, I sought to join an organization that could give me the opportunity to offer sexual health services and HIV prevention and treatment services to underserved populations. AHF is a perfect fit for me because it provides that opportunity, regardless of the patients' ability to pay.
I have special training on:
- Transgender Health: How to Serve Transgender Clients
- STI training for Healthcare Professionals
- Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis
- Gender-Based Violence Training for Clinicians
- Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission
- HIV/STD Inter-Relationship
- Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy among Substance Abusers
Fun Fact: I love and miss delivering babies!
