About Me

I am the Physician Assistant of the AHF Healthcare Centers: Midtown Manhattan HCC. I have been in practice for more than 34 years, focused specifically on HIV for most of that time. The opportunity arose for me to work in long-term care for individuals living with HIV at a time where there was only AZT and tremendous stigma associated with HIV and AIDS. Medical care for HIV was in its infancy, and many health care providers shied away from a disease where so little was known. At that time, care consisted of making people comfortable and hoping to prolong life. Over the years, I was part of the evolution of care where HAART became the standard. People started living longer, and now single tablet regimens or long-term injectables offer a full life expectancy. I have always worked in marginalized communities, primarily in communities of color and with people of lower socioeconomic means. After many years, I got the opportunity to join AHF in Midtown where the community consists primarily of men who have sex with men. I no longer am just managing clients’ HIV, but now I am able to prevent HIV by providing PrEP to individuals who are at high risk. Plus, the concept of HIV care has shifted in the direction of overall men's sexual health, and now we routinely screen for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including Hepatitis C, and provide treatment when indicated.
